2nd XV v Sandal 2nd XV (a) LOST 12-24.

REPORT BY RICHARD ODDY
Mods slipped to their second consecutive defeat against a very strong Sandal
second string. The first twenty minutes were dominated by some free flowing
rugby from Sandal and this coupled with missed tackles and other sundry
mistakes from the Mods took them into an early 12 nil lead which became 24
by half time.
However a big performance and tremendous team spirit from the Mods in the
second half saw the whitewash avoided. Pat Taylor crossed the line twice and
Beeforth converted once to bring the game back into reach. It was not to be
however and at the end of the eighty minutes Mods were left ruing the sloppy
start to the game.
For the second game running the Mods were beaten by a very strong side. The
manner in which the game was fought back however was a credit to those
involved. The Mods forwards held strong throughout and were the focus of
much of the good play that brought the Mods back into the game.
In the backs a special mention should be given to Karl "Moonwalker"
Blackburn who majestically undertook the role of outside centre. The fact
that he chose to sport moulded studs as he "couldn't find his others" only
added to the elegance as he glided around the Sandal mud bath like bambi on
ice.

3rd XV v Wetherby (h). WON 26-5

Tries: Calendar, Lee Williams, Townend, Arthur Daley
Cons: Andrews (3).
