1st XV v Wetherby (a) WON 24-0
3rd XV v Old Rishworthians 2nd XV (h) CANCELLED.
2nd XV v Wetherby (h) WON 30-22
On a very sunny but vaguely cool autumnal afternoon the Seconds, depite missing three or four key squad men, tore into bogey team Wetherby with a workmanlike vengeance. The first half was uphill and upsun and a GREENFIELD penalty was paltry return for our efforts as we turned at 8-3 down. We had shown enough to suggest that once the elements were in our favour a victory would be on its way. Sure enough within three minutes of the re-start we had pulled level with the first of BEN WARDLESWORTH'S two tries. On 55 DOWNES pocketed the first of his THREE the others coming in the 68th and 76th minutes in front of a healthy attendance of 25. BEN'S second arrived in the 71st minute. GREENFIELD popped over only one conversion, blaming the try scorers for touching down in the corners all the time. In between times Wetherby went in for two (some would say and most did) debatable tries (62nd and 80th mins.), both converted and the second being a penalty try for impeding an attacker. Whatever happened right at the death is hard to say but it followed tryscorer Ben's deliberate throw into touch whilst being tackled close to our line. That in itself was hardly worthy of a yellow card but that is what was shown. Perhaps words were spoken. Ben, if you're there; perhaps you can put me right on that one.
